If you’re setting up your payment information and got stuck on the W-9… you’re not alone.
This part trips people up because it looks more complicated than it actually is. Let’s simplify it so you can move forward and get paid without second guessing yourself.
What is the W-9 and why are you filling it out?
The W-9 is the form used to collect your taxpayer information so you can be paid as an independent contractor.
Here’s what you actually need to know:
Your work activity (hours, client programs services, etc.) is tracked through the platform
Payments are managed and tracked through Found
RYCH Remote Agents pays you through Found
Found is the system being used to:
Collect your W-9
Track how much you’ve been paid
Make sure you receive the correct tax documents (like a 1099-NEC if applicable)
So this step is required before you can receive your deposits.
What should you select?
If you do not have an LLC or registered business, this is what you choose:
Business Type: ✔️ Sole Proprietor
Taxpayer Identification: ✔️ SSN (Social Security Number)
That’s it. No overthinking.
What does “Sole Proprietor” actually mean?
A sole proprietor is simply someone who:
Works for themselves
Earns income under their own name
Has not created a separate business entity
So if you’re actively working your business on the Arise platform under your first and last name (no LLC) you are a sole proprietor.
Do you need an LLC to do this?
No.
You do not need:
An LLC
A corporation
A formal business setup
To complete your W-9.
Most independent contractors start as sole proprietors.
SSN vs EIN. Which one should you use?
Use your SSN if you are operating as yourself
Use an EIN only if you already have a registered business or applied for one
If you’re unsure what an EIN is, you most likely don’t need it.
What NOT to select
Do not choose:
S Corporation
C Corporation
Partnership
Trust or estate
Those options are only for formally registered businesses.
How your payments and tax documents work
Since you are an independent contractor:
You are paid by RYCH through Found
Found tracks your total earnings for the year
If you earn $600 or more, you will receive a 1099-NEC
If you earn less than $600, you may not receive a form. But you are still responsible for reporting your income
This setup ensures everything is documented correctly on both sides.
Final Reminder
If you’re a RYCH Remote Agent without a business set up:
➡️ Select Sole Proprietor
➡️ Use your SSN
Complete it, submit it, and you’re good to go.
